Well, it’s difficult in comparison to some pieces but not overly difficult. It is a song by Glinka transcribed as a solo piano piece by Balakirev. I sometimes wish my teacher was giving me “less challenging” pieces to balakkirev.

I would imagine that the original song is quite different to Balakirev’s transcription. I have thought of trying a program of bees, birds, and butterflies as there are quite a few of those around and it would be fascinating to hear the various ways the composers have conceived their renditions! Of course, this would be one of the ones on the program.

I’m thinking that means the actual music is by Glinka – but that Glinka wrote it to be performed by other instrumentation – and the piano “version” is by Balakirev.
